Dome Construction

The cover is a single hemispherical glass dome rather than a flat or cylindrical case. The dome is formed from heated glass shaped over a round mould and then tempered, producing a continuous half-sphere with no corner joints. Two thin gold metal arch bands run over the outside of the dome from one side of the rim to the other; these protect the glass edge line and reinforce the dome against side impact. The dome rests on a recessed channel in the gold table rim and is lifted straight upward to open, with no hinge or sliding track. The round body below stands on four curved arch legs welded to a lower ring. General case formats are shown in our display cases and floor standing showcases.

Handling Steps

Because the dome is one solid glass piece, follow these handling points:

• Lift the dome vertically using both hands on the arch bands
• Use two people for domes above 700mm diameter
• Set the dome rim-down on a padded surface while restocking
• Lower it back into the rim channel and fit the lock pin

Floor Placement

The table is built for island or center positions because the dome is viewed from all sides. Allow a clear circle around the unit at least 800mm wider than its diameter so staff can lift the dome upward and backward without hitting a wall or neighboring fixture. The four arch legs spread the load onto a lower ring, and adjustable glides under each leg level the dome rim; the rim must read level, since a tilted rim leaves a visible gap under a half-sphere cover. The deck is arranged with one featured piece at the center and ring stands around it.
