To begin with, the cake shop design combines classic architecture with a bit of modernity to create a welcoming environment for people who love cupcakes. The classic character of the space is found in the ornate moldings, columns that have a classic touch, chandeliers and many more elements adding a touch of elegance. At the same time, pastel colours and whimsical elements make the environment cool, and comfortable. These two elements make the shop look classy while at the same time inviting for customers to feel relaxed.
The counter & wall cabinets
Cupcake Counter: It serves as the centerpiece. The cupcake counter has a glass display case built into the design to properly display items for customers. It uses a variety of different types of pastel colored panels that match the overall theme of the shop. Being located adjacent to the entrance of the shop makes it easy for customers to quickly place an order when they enter the shop. The placed menu boards are easily seen by the customers and remain consistent with the overall theme.
Wall cabinets: The wall cabinets are each built into the overall design and serve two purposes of being a display for cupcakes and providing storage for inventory. The interiors of some of the cabinets are illuminated with purple lighting to highlight either premium cupcake choices or displays of decoration. Cabinets are designed with open shelving for easy access to cupcake packaging and for displaying other types of treats.
Furniture Selection
The seating environment consists of lightweight, classic white metallic framework furniture & a playful layout of bright, cheerful cushions, as well as round tables that can accommodate either one or two people but still provide for maximum adaptability between single’s & small parties. As well, there is a yellow swing set, which brings an element of whimsy to the shop and is designed specifically to provide photo opportunities, creating a beautiful shop.
Room Layout: The way the shop is laid out provides a natural transition for customers:
- Customers enter the shop at the counter.
- The seating area is located in the mid-to-back portion of the shop with plenty of room between tables, allowing for ease of movement.
- Area shelves/cabinets are set up against the walls of the shop, leaving the middle section of the floor open and inviting.
- This type of organisation allows for the most efficient operation of the shop, especially during peak business hours.
Decoration & Advantages
The cake store layout is designed to feel welcoming, and it has added many small details to create this effect. Also, the walls have a light beige colour with a white moulding to provide a traditional appearance. The floor tiles are made of a mix of light/dark patterns together to give a seamless surface to walk around on. The chandeliers add elegance but also give off a warm light that prevents the store from being overly formal. Also, the little pieces of art placed on the walls also relate to the cupcakes but do not crowd the walls.
To begin with, the mixture of both a traditional and a fun feel makes the shop appropriate for multiple types of occasions. Secondly, the design work in combination with the layout allows for a bright, airy feel in the store. Therefore, even with high traffic, the store remains open and airy. Thirdly, the shared colour scheme used throughout the store, and branding with the repeated ‘Sugaholic’ sign, further enhance the unified design, which is considerably memorable.
