Cute candy shop
When you push open the glass door of Randi’s Candies, the first thing that catches your eye is never the neon signs on the ceiling, but the “shining” candies in the entire wall of the cabinet – those candy writs wrapped in warm light, the colorful candy grains in the glass jars, all thanks to this cabinet that grows together with the space The dreamy feeling of the “Willy Wonka style” has been implemented in every practical detail of opening a candy store and selecting sugar. It is not a simple accumulation of “shelves”, but a carrier of sweet elements that are closely matched between “good-looking” and “practical”.
Overall design
The matching of color tones and materials: The base was chosen in pure high-gloss white. One reason is to make the colorful candies the absolute visual focus (even light pink milk candies would look softer when placed in a white cabinet). Secondly, the glaze texture of the high-gloss board is just right to withstand the daily hustle and bustle of a candy store: sugar stains splashed on it, packaging stained with cream, can be wiped clean with a damp cloth, and even stubborn fructose marks won’t leave any trace.
The hidden tenderness in the lines: All the corners of the cabinets have been rounded by 2cm – there are no sharp protrusions. When children run past with sugar jars, even if they gently rub against the corners of the cabinets, it won’t hurt. Such details don’t need to be deliberately mentioned, but they will make parents who bring their children here feel that “this store is very considerate”.
The “two-way care” in height: The upper layer of the wall cabinet is stuck at 1.6 meters, and an adult can reach it with just a raise of their hand. The lower level is just at eye level with the children. By standing on tiptoe, they can clearly see the sugar grains in the jar – neither requiring adults to bend down to accommodate nor treating the children as “onlookers who can only watch”.
Wall cabinet
A 10-cm-wide decorative edge was added to the top of the wall cabinet in the Candy store – printed with the patterns of colorful spiral lollipops and heart-shaped candy wrappers, which perfectly echoed the neon slogan “Eat Candy. Be Happy” on the wall. Even if the cabinet was empty, just looking at this decorative edge, one could smell the “sweetness”.
Under the decorative edge, there are two layers: the upper layer is a fine black hook with a spacing of 3cm, which is just right for hanging individually packaged lollipop and gummy bags. Customers can easily pull them off and put them in their pockets. The lower layer is a widened shelf with a depth of 25cm, which can hold bulk weighed sugar boxes or stacked souvenir packages.
This wall cabinet almost takes up the entire wall, but because the decorative edges are aligned with the rainbow vertical stripes on the wall and the diffused light from the shelves is not dazzling, when walking past, the eyes will slowly scan along the sugar bags on the hooks and the gift boxes in the shelves, as if strolling through a “sweet corridor”.
U-shaped counter
The shop assistant operates in the recessed area. Customers outside don’t have to crowd together. Even if three or four people are choosing candies at the same time, they can still comfortably gather around the counter. The side close to the entrance is the cashier area. The countertop has been widened to 60cm, which can not only accommodate cash registers and barcode scanners, but also temporarily stack the candy bags selected by customers. The middle area is a half-height glass fence – the transparent glass just reaches the waist of an adult, which can not only prevent dust from falling on the loose candies but also does not block the view. Bending over, one can clearly see the classified fruit candies, milk candies and gummy candies inside.
- The front of the counter features 16 white built-in compartments of the same style as the wall cabinets. These compartments can not only display limited edition small packages of sugar but also serve as storage compartments. Staff members don’t have to run to the storage room; they can simply reach out and get the packing bags and cash register receipts.
- The most wonderful part is at the bottom of the counter: there is a pinkish-purple LED ambient light hidden there. The light is “diffused” and won’t directly shake your feet. When standing in front of the counter, the light will gently wrap around your ankles and connect with the pale purple light band on the ceiling, making the air seem to be filled with the smell of sugar.
Detail handling
For instance, the edge of the central counter is designed in the shape of “sugar frosting dripping” : the light pink coating “flows” down the countertop by 3cm, just like a freshly made cake has been drizzled with sugar frosting – this detail perfectly echoes the giant lollipops hanging beside the wall cabinet. Even if there is no sugar on the counter, just looking at this shape, one can smell the sweet fragrance.
For instance, the connection between the wall cabinet and the wall: The side of the wall cabinet is not wrapped with extra edges and is directly aligned with the rainbow corrugated decorative panels on the wall. The giant lollipops (spiral-patterned and heart-shaped ones) hung in the gap are precisely inserted into the gap between the two wall cabinets, filling the void without looking messy.
Even the lights were “echoing” : the warm white light in the wall cabinet compartments was in harmony with the color temperature of the circular ceiling lights. The pinkish purple light at the bottom of the counter matches the pink and purple light strips in the neon signs. The light in the entire space is not chaotic but follows the display rhythm of the cabinets. Standing in any corner, one can feel that the “sweetness” is continuous.
