When you step through the door, you can sense the retro surf and skate shop’s ambience right away. The rich brown hardwood flooring feels warm underfoot from the sun. The walls have many faded skate labels and band posters that add to this fun environment. This is not like a sterile retail space; it is an old-fashioned virtual home for lovers of street culture. The furniture and merchandise are both part of a history of skateboarding and surfing culture.
1. Wooden Furniture
The core concept of the furniture in this store is to recreate the memories of the streets using solid wood. All the wooden items are both functional and have a retro look. There are no unnecessary decorations, yet every detail is hidden within.
Central pillar display stand:
The central circular display stand in the shop is the visual centerpiece. On the tabletop are stickers, ranging from punk band logos from the 90s to the current skateboarding brand logos. The layers of old and new stickers create a trace of time. The bottom rests on a vintage carpet with red patterns. It serves as both an operational platform for temporarily placing skateboards and a social center where customers naturally gather.
Skateboard rack and display wall:
The wooden skateboard rack on the wall is a custom-made stepped structure. Each layer receives a rounded, smooth finish to avoid scratching skateboard surfaces. The light brown base color contrasts strongly with the colorful skateboards.
Cashier counter and rest area:
Constructed from solid hardwood and constructed with natural wood grain and slight wear, this is what makes up your store’s checkout area. In addition, the restaurant’s dining room has an adjacent seating area where you can find 1960s-style wood dining chairs to complete the overall look of this dining area. You have a retro surfing theme so the combination of the rounded back of the dining chair and the metal base of the dining chair complements each other wonderfully, displaying an eclectic appearance.
2. Space Design
The entire store’s design focuses on an immersive experience. There are no rigid divisions; instead, a wooden structure guides the flow of customers:
Flow planning: Starting from the entrance, the wooden skateboard rack on the left forms the first visual guide. Customers can walk along the rack towards the center. The circular display stand in the middle breaks the straight flow. This allows people to look around and see the clothing and accessories when they are staying and interacting.
Blending different materials: Wooden counters provide warmth that offsets the hardware’s cold, harsh nature. Patterned vintage wallpaper lines the walls; surfboards are hung up by hemp rope attached to wooden beams, giving the store a retro home-style vibe and adding comfort.
Lighting: Products are primarily lit by track and natural light through store window displays. Wooden displays will reflect warm light with a gentle glow, causing skateboard finishes to be more vibrant.
3. Display Logic
The arrangement of items uses retro imagery to tell a story, with skateboard visuals linking pieces across different eras.
Skateboard display: Skateboards line the walls, organized by era and release date.Beginning with single-tailboards from the 80’s to double-tailboards of today. Each skateboard has an array of surface patterns from hand markings to digital printing, which represent the evolution of skate designs. The skateboards are on wooden stands at an angle to allow customers to touch and feel the rough surface of the skateboard.
Fashion display: T-Shirts and sweatshirts hung on wooden hangers with the same corresponding design as skateboards. This layout will allow customers to visually understand how to fully outfit themselves with these skateboards and apparel.
Accessory storage: Small accessories like skateboard bearings and sandpaper in a wooden drawer cabinet. Each drawer label has the name of the accessory via hand-drawn labels. This allows customers to easily choose their own accessories while maintaining a laid-back feel of the retro garage store.

The countertop of the cashier counter has been reinforced with three layers of varnish, which can withstand the repeated friction from skateboards. The edges of the skateboard rack have anti-slip properties to prevent customers from losing their grip when taking them.
