The design of the consultation room has always held a lot of importance to parents who have children visiting doctors due to their feeling anxious. The layout can greatly reduce a child’s anxiety in what can be a very difficult situation. As mentioned before, the layout of this article is quite simple, yet it provides comfort for children and their parents. In order to see the artistic nature of this room’s design, we will take a closer look at it.
Consultation room
As you entered into a private consultation room, on one wall was a small light grey desk. On top of the desk was a variety of small tools, such as computers and stethoscopes and other items. They are compact and easily accessible to the doctor. On the side of the desk was a purple medical stool which has angles.
The opposite side of the desk has a small purple swivel seat which is of the same colour range as the desk. The wheels on the swivel seat are highly manoeuvrable. The wall has a half off-white and half light yellowish-green colour scheme. These are soft tone colours, have low saturation levels.
Waiting area
Upon entering through the front entrance, one sees a large, soft, padded dark green “L” shaped sofa that one could easily place three to four parents with children comfortably at once.
A small round light yellow table with small, rounded legs is in the middle of the sofa so as not to obstruct children from bumping into it.
There are bright yellow square tables in the waiting area along with colourful plastic children’s chairs. The blue and green children’s chairs match the colours of the large dark green sofa, but they are shorter than the sofa.
Wall decoration
Sticker art of cartoon trees in the waiting area of the clinic has been placed on the walls. A dark brown trunk and a crown consisting of light blue and tender green bumpy spots are the colourful elements of these cartoon trees. Next to each cartoon tree are SLIM yellow flower stickers and small green butterfly stickers.
The left wall of the consulting area features a rose-red owl sticker. This rose-red owl sticker can help relieve anxiety in children and shift their focus to something else.
Multiple yellow flower stickers have been placed on the wall next to the door. These butterflies are placed directly beside the flowers; this pattern is very similar to a child’s room and removes some of the serious nature of the hospital.
Material
Flooring: Floor covered with light beige PVC, less cold than tile. Less prone to dust accumulation than carpet. Child spills juice on the floor, simply wipe it clean with a wet wipe.
Cushions: Sofas and medical chairs have cushions made of wear-resistant fabric. Dark green cushions are dirt resistant; purple cushions are scratch resistant. If a child accidentally scratches a cushion with a paintbrush, a cleaner will remove the mark.
Countertop: Reception desk countertop is made from quartz stone with fine patterning, and has waterproof and scratch resistant properties. Countertop also installed with blue mosaic tiles; even if you push a chair against the tiles, they will not come off.
Walls: The wall is painted with washable matte paint. If a child sticks a sticker on the wall, a damp cloth will wipe it off; no need to repaint frequently.
